Grant Hart: Life After Husker Du

Feb 17th, 2010 · In 1979, Hart formed the post-hardcore punk band Husker Du with Bob Mould, and became an underground icon in the decade that followed. Shortly after the group split in 1987, Hart began a solo career, recording five solo albums between 1988 and '99 (plus two more as leader of Nova Mob). His newest record, Hot Wax, just arrived after a 10-year hiatus.

The Knack's Lead Singer Doug Fieger Dies

Feb 15th, 2010 · Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit "My Sharona," died Sunday. He was 57. Fieger, a Detroit-area native, died at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after battling cancer, according to The Knack's manager, Jake Hooker.

Iran Makes First Batch Of Higher Enriched Uranium

Feb 11th, 2010 · Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced Thursday that the Islamic republic has produced its first package of highly enriched uranium just two days after beginning the process. Ahmadinejad on Thursday told hundreds of thousands of cheering Iranians on the anniversary of the 1979 foundation of the Islamic republic that the country was now a "nuclear state." However, he insisted that Iran had no intention to build nuclear weapons.

Trailblazing African-American Senator Gets Top Honor

Oct 29th, 2009 · Edward William Brooke III was the first African-American to win popular election to the U.S. Senate. A Republican, he represented Massachusetts for two terms, from 1967 to 1979. And yesterday Brooks received the Congressional Gold Medal at a ceremony held in the Capitol Rotunda. It is the highest honor Congress can grant.
