Jan 6th, 2009 · In its last appearance at Macworld — and the first without CEO Steve Jobs — Apple introduced the new MacBook Pro with a longer battery life, and changes to rights management in iTunes. Tom Krazit of CNET News says Jobs has been the main attraction at the expo for some time and his absence must have weighed on some people's minds.
Dec 22nd, 2008 · A group of 14 technology companies, including Johnson Controls and 3M, have banded together to seek funding for research, development and production of new automotive battery technology. The group is seeking $1- to $2 billion in federal funding for the venture.
Dec 18th, 2008 · Computer maker Hewlett-Packard next month will offer batteries that could outlast the laptops they power. They're made by Boston Power, the first American company to break into a market dominated by Japanese battery makers. Curt Nickisch reports for member station WBUR.
Nov 21st, 2008 · One of the buzzwords at the Los Angeles Auto Show is "electrification." It's a future where cars run solely on battery power. Paul Eisenstein of The Detroit Bureau, an independent auto news service, says that future is still a ways off. He tells Steve Inskeep that for electric cars to succeed, they'll need a battery that lasts for more than 100 miles before a recharge.
Sep 15th, 2008 · A Florida man says he was just defending his daughter. Raul Colon says he heard noises coming from his teenage daughter's bedroom, and he found a stranger on her bed. Police say Colon whacked him with a pipe, then chased him out the door. Then he learned, for the first time, that his daughter has a boyfriend. Fathers everywhere will be stunned to learn that whacking a boy with a pipe is apparently not a father's prerogative. Police charged him with aggravated battery.
Jun 23rd, 2008 · Democrat Barack Obama talked Monday about the women who helped shape his life and argued he would be a better proponent of equal pay than his Republican rival, John McCain. Meanwhile, McCain proposed a $300 million government prize for anyone who can develop a car battery that far surpasses existing technology.
May 22nd, 2008 · A donkey has been released from a Mexican jail. Blacky the burro was charged with assault and battery after biting and kicking, two men near a ranch outside Chiapas. Blacky served three days. And his owner paid a fine to cover hospital bills and salary for the days the victims missed work. Police officer Sinar Gomez pointed out , "Around here, if someone commits a crime they are jailed — no matter who they are."
Apr 7th, 2008 · California has set a lofty goal for a new type of high-mileage car that is still on the drawing board: a "plug-in hybrid" that runs mostly on battery power. Americans can't buy one yet -- big automakers are still trying to perfect the technology -- but a small company near Los Angeles has gotten a head start.
