New Space Promotes Intersection of Art, Science

Dec 29th, 2007 · A new creative space dedicated to experimental collaboration between artists and scientists opens in Paris. Le Laboratoire is the brainchild of Harvard bio-medical technology professor David Edwards. Besides teaching, Edwards writes fiction and works in theater, so it seems natural that he would be interested in the intersection of art and science. He and his collaborators are mounting "experiments" through which they show the processes behind artistic creation and scientific exploration. Frank Browning reports.

New Energy Bill Hikes Fuel Efficiency

Dec 19th, 2007 · President Bush is set to sign into law a new energy bill that includes the first hike in fuel efficiency rules in 32 years. The bill passed by wide margins in the House and Senate. In addition to requiring auto manufacturers to make cars that run an average of 35 miles to the gallon -- up from the current 25 – the bill also orders an increase in the use of bio-fuels. And, it phases out sales of old fashioned, incandescent light bulbs.

With a push for bio-fuels and ethanol, big oil seems reluctant to spend billions for conventional refining -- which could keep supplies tight and prices high.
