Dec 29th, 2008 · The Israeli bombardment of the Gaza Strip is causing people to panic, says Ahmed Abu Hamda, a news producer for foreign news organizations, including NPR. He says that on Monday the air attacks went on almost continuously from midnight to 7 a.m., but after that it wasn't as heavy.
Dec 28th, 2008 · Israeli jets continued pounding the Gaza Strip on Sunday. Targets included smuggling tunnels in southern Gaza and the main Hamas security complex. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed this weekend in the densely packed territory.

The conflict was triggered by a Georgian ground offensive into the Russian-backed breakaway region of South Ossetia. Now Georgia's president says he's withdrawing forces from the area and publicly calling for a cease-fire. But Russia continues its bombardment of Georgian territory.
