It's been hailed as a success. The Border Patrol says it now has the numbers to take over, but border state governors say they want the troops to remain.

May 7th, 2008 · U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in San Diego are seeing an increase in smuggling by sea. Improvements in border security on land have pushed immigrant and drug smugglers offshore. During the past few months, dozens of small boats have been found on the beaches near the border. May 18th, 2006 · President Bush is on the border Arizona shares with Mexico today, visiting the Border Patrol he wants to bolster with National Guard troops. The president's spokesman said the White House would accept the 370-mile fence approved by the Senate, even though it has previously opposed building walls to block immigration.
