The men were identified as cameraman Alaa Uldeen Aziz, 33, and soundman Saif Laith Yousuf, 26. Their deaths reemphasize the dangers of reporting in Iraq -- particularly for Iraqi journalists who have been hired by Western news agencies, including NPR.
Feb 28th, 2007 · Shortly after Bob Woodruff was tapped as lead anchor on ABC's World News Tonight, he and his cameraman were gravely injured by a bomb while reporting in Iraq. Now, he and his wife have written a book about his recovery.
Aug 30th, 2006 · Fox News reporter Steve Centanni, who along with freelance cameraman Olaf Wiig was kidnapped by masked gunmen in the Gaza Strip and held for two weeks, was released Sunday after long negotiations and a "conversion" to Islam at gunpoint.
Aug 27th, 2006 · Two journalists captured by militants in the Gaza Strip were freed by their captors Sunday. Correspondent Steve Centanni and cameraman Olaf Wiig were dropped off at Gaza City's Beach Hotel by Palestinian security officials.
Aug 23rd, 2006 · Video was released Wednesday of two Fox News journalists kidnapped Aug. 14 by an obscure Palestinian group. Both men -- correspondent Steve Centanni and cameraman Olaf Wiig -- appear to be in good health. The group is demanding the release of Muslim prisoners being held in U.S. jails within three days.
May 29th, 2006 · In yet another devastating day of violence in Iraq, a CBS soundman and cameraman were killed and their correspondent critically injured in an apparent car bomb attack in Baghdad, in a day that saw at least eight separate bombs kill at least 33 others in the worst wave of violence to hit Iraq in recent days.
