Jun 30th, 2005 · Bank of America is paying $35 billion for MBNA - making it one of the world's largest issuers of credit cards. The deal will give Bank of America more than 40 million credit card accounts. It is the second major deal since CEO Kenneth Lewis took over in 2001. Last year, Bank of America bought FleetBoston for $48 billion.
