Jul 12th, 2007 · California's effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is spilling over into another area: the battle against urban sprawl. State Attorney General Jerry Brown announced that California is suing San Bernardino County for its 25 year growth plan. He claims that officials there failed to calculate how sprawling new subdivisions would put thousands of more cars on the freeways and add to global warming. NPR's Carrie Kahn reports.

May 12th, 2007 · More than 42-hundred acres have burned on the Southern California island of Catalina. Fire officials say they have more than a third of the fire contained and hope to have it under control by early next week. The fire nearly burned down the island's main town, Avalon, but a brave crew of firefighters stood their ground and saved the city. NPR's Carrie Kahn reports from Catalina.
