Janis Bowdler is deputy director of the Wealth Building Policy Project at the National Council of La Raza. Last week, the council published a survey of 25 Latino families and how they are affected by the current economic crisis. Joel Kotkin, distinguished presidential fellow at Chapman University in Orange, Calif., talks about the effect of foreclosures on families. The expected — and strongly contested vote — won the approval of the city council in a vote, 11 to 2. Michael Crawford, who leads the same-sex marriage advocacy group DC for Marriage, reacts to the recent vote and explains why his grassroots organization says justice was served. Crawford, who is African-American, also explains the significance of the vote within the D.C. black gay community, given the majority black population of the nation's capital.
