Nov 19th, 2008 · India's navy says one of its warships patrolling the Gulf of Aden battled Somali pirates and destroyed one of their so-called motherships — a supply vessel that helps the pirates operate in open water. The attack occurred Tuesday, the same day Somali pirates hijacked two more ships. Nikolas Gvosdev, teaches national security studies at the U.S. Naval War College, he tells Steve Inskeep what can be done to protect one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.

Rounded out by Nik Pfeifer on guitar and Brian Boesen on drums, Love in October is the sort of group that fans of Top 40 pop-punk have longed for. Oct 2nd, 2008 · Across the country, homes are going cheap. In Saginaw, Mich., one just sold on eBay. The winning bid came from Joanne Smith of Chicago. The price: $1.75. In Texas, Cissie Owen has found her beach cabin. She thought Hurricane Ike destroyed it. Turns out the storm surge picked it up, moved it across the highway, and deposited it completely intact. Owen calls it a "feisty little cabin." She has no plans to move back in.

Sep 21st, 2008 · A huge truck bomb destroyed the Marriott Hotel in the Pakistan capital, Islamabad, killing more than 50 people in a terrorist attack that has shaken the country's new administration. Among the dead are at least one American, a German and the Czech ambassador to Pakistan, reports NPR's Phillip Reeves, who says investigators suspect al-Qaida and the Pakistani Taliban in the blast.
