Dec 29th, 2009 · Engineers dynamited the massive Crown Point Bridge that links Vermont and New York across Lake Champlain on Monday. The 80-year-old bridge was closed without warning last fall because of safety concerns. Its destruction punctuates a major transportation crisis that has worsened as the lake begins to ice up, forcing motorists to make 100-mile detours. A new bridge is expected to open in 2011.

Nov 1st, 2006 · Police arrested a man who decided that Halloween was the perfect time to dress up as Osama bin Laden. Tom Connolly was the Democratic nominee for governor of Maine in 1998. In 2000, he was the man who tipped off the media to George W. Bush's drunk-driving arrest. Now he has his own record. Connolly went to a highway construction site wearing a bin Laden costume. He carried fake dynamite and a replica rifle. Police arrested him, saying this went over the line.
