Aug 25th, 2008 · A two-man punctuation patrol went a little too far. Jeff Deck and Benjamin Herson have been traveling the country correcting punctuation on signs. But they'll be paying a hefty fine after altering a historic hand-painted sign at the Grand Canyon — something federal authorities call vandalism. The pair did leave one misspelling on the old Grand Canyon sign: "emense".
Jul 26th, 2008 · Tour guides in Philadelphia say the city's efforts to ensure historical accuracy have gone a league too far. A city law set to take effect this fall requires tour guides to pass a written licensing test or face hefty fines. Similar laws are already on the books in Washington, New Orleans and Charleston, S.C. But tour guides in Philadelphia are challenging the law in court, saying it violates the First Amendment.

Now they can face criminal charges such as identity theft, which can bring a hefty prison sentence. Immigrant rights groups and some members of Congress are challenging the practice.

The price of the raw material it uses most, soy oil, has shot up even faster than crude oil, all but pricing the alternative fuel out of the U.S. market. Mar 18th, 2008 · The Federal Reserve lowered a key interest rate on Tuesday by three-quarters of a percentage point, a hefty cut that nonetheless was smaller than many analysts had expected. The federal funds rate now stands at 2.25 percent, the lowest since February 2005. It makes it easier for consumers and businesses to borrow money.
