U.S.-Afghan Force Raids Suspected Taliban Hideout

Aug 12th, 2008 · NPR's Jackie Northam has the second in her two reports on U.S. Special Forces in Afghanistan. Northam accompanies the commandos during an air assault on a suspected Taliban hideout. It's the first time a journalist has been allowed to accompany the Afghan-U.S. commandos on an operation.

Detectives Search Manson Ranch for Murder Victims

May 20th, 2008 · Sheriffs' detectives in Inyo County, Calif., believe a one-time hideout of the notorious Charles Manson clan may be concealing the bodies of murder victims from nearly 40 years ago. The detectives are converging Tuesday on the Barker Ranch with shovels and high-tech ground-penetrating radar to search for graves.

U.S. Planes Strike Al-Qaida Hideouts Near Baghdad *

Jan 10th, 2008 · U.S. and Iraqi forces are in the midst of "Operation Phantom Phoenix," a wide-scale offensive aimed at eliminating pockets of al-Qaida north and south of Baghdad. The operation involves thousands of troops. U.S. warplanes are also involved. Earlier Thursday, they carried out a major bombing raid on one suspected al-Qaida hideout.

Turkey Bombs Rebel Kurds

Dec 17th, 2007 · Dozens of Turkish planes were bombing mountain hideouts of the rebel Kurdish organization, the PKK, over the weekend. The attack, 60 miles inside Iraq, lasted for three hours. This appears to be the most intense cross-border attack launched by the Turks since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003.

U.S. Military: Zarqawi Died from Bomb Blast

Zarqawi Was Alive After Attack, Pentagon Says

Jun 9th, 2006 · Pentagon officials now say Abu Musab al-Zarqawi briefly survived the U.S. air strike that flattened his hideout north of Baghdad Wednesday night. Before two bombs struck the safe house, American commandos were already on the ground, watching Zarqawi's movements. They sent his exact coordinates to warplanes overhead.
