Nov 4th, 2008 · Democrats hold a majority in the House of Representatives — and they could gain another 17 to 40 seats. A Democratic pickup of 20 or more seats would be reminiscent of the GOP landslide of 1994, which left House Democrats in the minority for a dozen years.

But in order for the bill to go through, several members of the House who had earlier in the week voted NO had to vote YES. Host Michel Martin is joined by Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois and Congresswoman Donna Edwards of Maryland. They talk about why they changed their vote and if they feel they sacrificed too much in the process.

Oct 3rd, 2008 · Lawmakers in the House of Representatives are expected to vote Friday on a revised Wall Street rescue bill. Lawmakers there rejected the plan Monday by 23 votes. The Senate passed a modified version of the package Wednesday. Now some House members will have to become vote switchers, a label no one likes, in order for the bill to pass.
Sep 30th, 2008 · The House of Representatives rejected a $700 billion dollar financial bailout plan yesterday. As a result, the Dow dropped over 700 points, the largest stock drop in history. Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks of New York voted for the bill, while Democratic Congressman Bobby Scott of Virginia voted against it. The two Congressmen debate the pros and cons of the bailout plan.
Sep 29th, 2008 · In a surprise turn, the House of Representatives defeated the Bush administration's $700 billion bailout plan. Democrats joined with Republicans in a bipartisan rejection of the bill.
