American Nuns Out In Force To Support Health Bill

Mar 18th, 2010 · The debate on health care reform has brought about deep divisions within the Catholic Church, pitting nuns against bishops. Wednesday, the heads of dozens of religious orders representing 59,000 nuns signed a letter urging Congress to approve the health care bill. Their stance is clashing with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, who oppose the bill, due to the belief that it provides for federal funding of abortions. Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of Network, a national Catholic social justice lobby, speaks with host Michel Martin.
