One of the provisions was tax relief for Alaskan plaintiffs in the recently settled Exxon Valdez lawsuit. Alaska Sen. Governor Of Kansas Reports For Jury Duty

She's never done it.The woman reported to the Shawnee County courthouse. She was part of the jury pool for a personal injury lawsuit. But she knew the plaintiff's attorney, so she was excused. And after that brief pleasant interlude, Kathleen Sebelius had to return to her day job as governor of Kansas.

Chevron, Ecuador In Costly Environmental Dispute

Sep 18th, 2008 · Oil giant Texaco, now owned by Chevron, is involved in an epic environmental lawsuit brought on behalf of the indigenous people of Ecuador's rain forest. Texaco is accused of failing to clean up billions of gallons of toxic waste produced during its involvement in oil production in Ecuador. Texaco ended its operations there in the early 1990's and its new owner Chevron inherited the lawsuit. Attorney Stephen Donziger who works with the plaintiffs legal team and Chevron spokesperson Kent Robertson discuss the case.

Court Rules On American Indian Trust Fund

Aug 8th, 2008 · A federal judge ruled that American Indians plaintiffs are entitled to $455 million in a 12-year-long trust case. A lawsuit claimed the Interior Department swindled plaintiffs out of billions in royalties since 1887. The plaintiffs had sought $47 billion.

Revolvers Mark Win For Gun-Rights Advocates

Judge Responds To 465-Page Lawsuit In Rhyme

Jul 8th, 2008 · When a lawyer in Tacoma, Wash., filed a lawsuit 465 pages long — with an eight-page title — the judge had enough. Referring to a rule requiring "short and plain" allegations, Judge Ronald Leighton issued a short and plain limerick: "Plaintiff has a great deal to say, but it seems he skipped Rule 8-a. His complaint is too long, which renders it wrong. Please rewrite and refile today."
