Nov 12th, 2008 · Sacramento last week elected its first black mayor, former NBA star Kevin Johnson. The 42-year-old businessman beat a two-term incumbent by running on a platform of change. At the same time, the non-profit organization Johnson founded, which works to revitalize poor neighborhoods with charter schools and redevelopment projects, is being investigated for misuse of public funds. Although elections have long been linked to faith issues, churches were banned from direct involvement in political campaigns because of tax-exempt status.
Sep 26th, 2008 · The long-awaited "Google phone" has arrived. The G1 phone carries Google's Android software and runs on T-Mobile networks. Though its touch screen and online integration make the G1 analogous to Apple's iPhone, the Android platform is open for use by multiple phone developers.

Aug 29th, 2008 · As John McCain's scheduled vice presidential announcement neared Friday, a surprising name emerged as his likely pick: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. She's a 44-year-old mother of five who was elected in 2006 on a platform of challenging the old guard of the Republican Party.
Aug 28th, 2008 · The 112 delegates on the Republican platform committee have hammered out a 20,000-word document outlining the party's beliefs, positions and ideals. It's a symbolic document, non-binding on the candidates. And coming up with it this year proved to be an exercise in balancing positions held by the party faithful with those of their presumptive nominee, John McCain.
