Jan 20th, 2006 · Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski has declared a state of emergency due to continued heavy rainfall. Oregonians are used to strong rain in the winter, but as Rob Manning of Oregon Public Broadcasting reports, it's been pouring for almost a month. More than half of the state's 36 counties have suffered flooding and dangerous mudslides.
Dec 26th, 2005 · A researcher at Cornell University has found that even when bartenders are told to be very careful, they pour about 30 percent more alcohol into a tumbler-sized glass than a highball-sized glass. The result can mean people have more to drink than they think they're getting.
Sep 3rd, 2005 · Donations to help victims of Hurricane Katrina are pouring in, and many corporations are springing into action along with individual donors. Pledges so far approach $200 million.
Sep 2nd, 2005 · There are hundreds of chemical plants, oil refineries, and other major industrial facilities located on the Mississippi River Delta near the city of New Orleans. Early surveys suggest that these plants survived Katrina largely intact. Unfortunately, when Katrina's floodwaters poured into New Orleans, they may have created a toxic mess that could take decades to clean up.
Jun 30th, 2005 · It's been 6 months since a tsunami swept across the Indian Ocean, killing a quarter of a million people in a dozen countries. As NPR's Margot Adler reports, the billions of dollars in aid that have poured into those countries is only beginning to make a dent.

May 30th, 2005 · The meltoff from record-breaking winter snows in the Sierra Mountains is sending torrents of water pouring down the granite cliffs of Yosemite National Park. Sasha Khokha of NPR station KQED says tourists are thrilled at one of the wildest waterfall displays in memory.
