Heavy Oregon Rains Prompt State of Emergency *

Jan 20th, 2006 · Oregon Gov. Ted Kulongoski has declared a state of emergency due to continued heavy rainfall. Oregonians are used to strong rain in the winter, but as Rob Manning of Oregon Public Broadcasting reports, it's been pouring for almost a month. More than half of the state's 36 counties have suffered flooding and dangerous mudslides.

Glass Shape Can Affect Amount of Alcohol Poured

Dec 26th, 2005 · A researcher at Cornell University has found that even when bartenders are told to be very careful, they pour about 30 percent more alcohol into a tumbler-sized glass than a highball-sized glass. The result can mean people have more to drink than they think they're getting.

Early surveys suggest that these plants survived Katrina largely intact.
