Nov 11th, 2008 · America is mourning the loss of a beloved canine. Gus was recently declared the ugliest dog in the world. He had one eye, three legs and an overbite that just wouldn't quit. He passed away from skin cancer. Meanwhile, the campaign to find a dog for the Obama family continues. Peruvians are lobbying for a bald, often toothless breed called the Peruvian Hairless Dog. They says it's perfect for children who are allergic. The puppy's official name is Machu Picchu but it answers to Ears.

The current White House dog, a Scottish terrier, bit a Reuters reporter Thursday. Jon Decker was trying to pet the usually friendly dog. Barney growled and snapped at his finger. The White House medical staff treated the bleeding finger. Barney held onto his territory, for now.

Aug 4th, 2008 · The Wisconsin Humane Society has purchased a mass dog-breeding operation — labeled a "puppy mill" by its critics — in order to shut it down. Now, the animal welfare group has to find homes for 1,200 dogs that have spent their entire lives at the facility.

The Maryland Department of Correction already uses cell phone sniffing pooches to keep their jails safe.
