On Cue, Spacecraft Glides into Orbit Around Mars *

Mar 10th, 2006 · Mission controllers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., burst into applause as the Reconnaissance Orbiter arrives safely to Mars. Only about two-thirds of NASA's Mars missions have survived. The spacecraft is supposed to gather more information about Mars than all previous missions combined.

New Probe to Rendezvous with Mars

Mar 10th, 2006 · If all goes well, a powerful, new space probe will arrive Friday at Mars. As the name suggests, the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter will not land on the surface. It's designed to view the entire planet from an altitude of about 200 miles. But first it has to arrive safely, and that's been no easy feat for missions to Mars.
