No Football Timeout For Congress

Jan 7th, 2009 · Congressman Cliff Stearns, a Republican from Florida, asked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to reconsider any votes scheduled for Thursday. The reason: Stearns is hoping to go to college football's championship game. Number-two Florida plays number-one Oklahoma in Miami. Pelosi's office says there won't be a change in the schedule. Among the issues to be considered: certification of the Electoral College vote that gives Barack Obama the presidency.

D.C. Asked To Reconsider Extended Alcohol Sales

Dec 10th, 2008 · Washington D.C. plans to party during inauguration week. For some reason, this plan has not met with unanimous approval. The city last week approved allowing bars to serve alcohol until 5 a.m from Jan 17 to Jan. 21. Two Senators involved with inauguration plans want the city to drop that idea. They say police already will be busy providing security for millions. Let's not even talk about whether there are enough bathrooms on the National Mall.

Sen. Dodd Frustrated By Banks' Use Of Funds

Old Visitor Center Is New Battle Of Gettysburg *

Oct 7th, 2008 · The 1864 cyclorama painting, "The Battle of Gettysburg," is on display in a new visitors center. The National Park Service wants to demolish the old building but it was designed by Richard Neutra, one of the most important figures of modern architecture. Neutra's son has filed a lawsuit to force the Park Service to reconsider its decision. Alex Schmidt reports for member station WHYY. (6) McCain: There Are Unanswered Questions About Obama — The Democrat and Republican presidential hopefuls debate Tuesday in Nashville, Tenn. On Monday, Republican John McCain campaigned in New Mexico, arguing that Barack Obama is inexperienced and raised questions about Obama's past relationships.
