Oct 21st, 2008 · According to legend, it's been 65 years since the first nachos were served. Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya is credited with creating the snack food at a restaurant in Piedras Negras, Mexico, just across the border from Texas along the Rio Grande. As the story goes, some Americans stopped in the restaurant just when the chef had stepped out. Maitre d' Nacho Anaya threw together some chips and cheese, stuck them under the broiler and added a jalapeno. And nachos were served.

Waitress Who Introduced L.A. To Nachos Dies *

Oct 17th, 2008 · The waitress who's credited with introducing nachos to Los Angeles has died. Carmen Rocha started working at El Cholo Mexican restaurant in 1959. And she brought with her from Texas a special treat: tortilla wedges, shredded cheddar cheese and slices of jalapeno pepper. One cookbook writer told the Los Angeles Times, "If they were called 'Carmens,' not nachos, her name would be remembered forever."

When he refused to give it up, he was arrested. And a restaurant in Maine also had a dress code problem. Officials forced the Black Frog Restaurant to stop a promotion. It offered a free sandwich to anybody who went skinny dipping in a nearby lake.
