Oct 25th, 2008 · Last week, Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio and a team of 30 deputies and 30 volunteer posse members stormed Mesa's City Hall in a pre-dawn raid for illegal immigrants on the city cleaning crew. Meanwhile, a Latino neighborhood has had its police force taken away because they protested Arpaio's tactics.
Aug 13th, 2008 · The largest mental institution in the U.S. is actually a wing of Twin Towers, an L.A. County jail. The sheriff says it doesn't make sense to incarcerate the mentally ill, but as long as it's the only option, he's trying to make it work.
Jul 29th, 2008 · Four U.S. citizens and one a legal immigrant have filed a lawsuit against Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and his department for what they claim is racial profiling in Maricopa County's monitoring of illegal immigration. Jul 10th, 2008 · A Colorado teenager created a toll bridge, or rather a "troll" bridge. Robert Hibbs allegedly told bikers and joggers he was a troll and demanded one dollar to cross. When an off-duty sheriff's deputy refused to pay, Hibbs allegedly attacked the deputy. Once police arrested Hibbs, they found he was rolling marijuana joints with his one-dollar bills.
Jul 7th, 2008 · Some sheriff deputies in Fairfield County, Ohio, are using golf carts to save gas and money. Deputies in the community of Bremen (pop. 1,200) use the electric carts to patrol some neighborhoods. Deputies say the carts are not only more efficient, they also improve community-policing efforts. May 22nd, 2008 · Days after a deadly shooting on a California Indian reservation, tensions are running high. Riverside County sheriff's deputies killed two members of the Soboba tribe in a shootout. Tribal officials say the deputies overreacted, but the sheriff's department says they were ambushed.
