Sep 12th, 2008 · Residents of Elkhart, Ind., have a choice. They can start digging holes all over town, or they can accept that their time capsule from 1958 is gone. Fifty years later, the city would like to dig it up, but there's no official record of its location. One resident remembers that it might be on a street corner where, unfortunately, the sidewalk was recently replaced. The city plans a new time capsule with better records of its location.

Aug 19th, 2008 · An Iowa college town is protecting itself from the effects of drinking. People in Ames — home of Iowa State University — noticed a concrete sidewalk cracking in the area where beer distributors unload hundreds of beer kegs for local bars. Some of the kegs get dropped. The city installed a sidewalk made of recycled rubber. Now the kegs will bounce — and with any luck, so will students stumbling back to the dorm.

Mar 11th, 2008 · An activist in San Diego has found a way to keep homeless people from sleeping on sidewalk benches. She wants volunteers to act like homeless people and take over the benches first. Esther Viti sent e-mails asking for help. She wants people to sit down, for three-hour shifts. They clog up the space so homeless people can't. So far nobody has volunteered for the job. If only she could find some homeless people who've got just the right experience.

Jan 16th, 2008 · Wisconsin abolishes a law in an effort to prevent cold feet. After enduring a very snowy month of December and a really cold start to 2008, Wisconsin lawmakers lifted its state-wide ban on heated sidewalks, stairs, and entrances. The ban was put in place in the 1970s.

Jul 7th, 2007 · A judge in Philadelphia found Anthony Riley not guilty of disorderly conduct this week after Riley was arrested for singing too loudly in the city's upscale Rittenhouse Square.
