May 7th, 2008 · U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents in San Diego are seeing an increase in smuggling by sea. Improvements in border security on land have pushed immigrant and drug smugglers offshore. During the past few months, dozens of small boats have been found on the beaches near the border. Now federal agents are responding. Amy Isackson reports from member station KPBS.

Dec 20th, 2007 · Border Patrol agents are increasingly clashing with rock-throwing smugglers along the U.S.-Mexico border near San Diego. Mexican officials say the agents have retaliated by lobbing tear gas canisters into a Tijuana neighborhood.

May 27th, 2007 · Ed Newcomer of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service went undercover to trap an international butterfly thief. Assuming an alias for three years, he caught a man who touted himself as "the world's most-wanted butterfly smuggler."
Mar 27th, 2007 · A "strangely fat" woman was stopped at the Gaza-Egypt border and searched by a female border guard who found, under veils and robes, three 20-inch crocodiles. Their jaws were tied shut with string. The guard ran screaming, but one checkpoint official allowed: "everybody was admiring a woman who is able to tie crocodiles to her body."
Feb 13th, 2007 · Federal officials break up a smuggling ring in California that pulled thousands of baby leopard sharks out of the San Francisco Bay. The man accused of running the ring is a church pastor.
Jan 25th, 2007 · Georgia says its security services have foiled an attempt by a Russian smuggler to sell weapons-grade uranium. Georgia's Interior Ministry says the man was arrested as he tried to sell a few ounces of highly enriched uranium for $1 million to a Georgian agent. The man said he had access to much more uranium.
