Jan 2nd, 2009 · Bernard Madoff was robbed. The Wall Street investor is accused of making billions of dollars disappear in an alleged Ponzi scheme. And now we know that somebody made off with a statue from his Florida estate. It was a copper statue, worth $10,000 dollars. After they took it, the mysterious robbers brought it back. And they attached a note: "Lesson: Return stolen property to rightful owners."

Though Mayawati is just 5 feet tall, a new statue erected in her honor was 12 feet tall. But nearby statues of other leaders towered over hers so, at a cost of almost a million dollars, Mayawati's statue grew 3 feet.
May 19th, 2008 · The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts has expressed concern that a statue of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. planned for the Washington Mall makes him appear "confrontational." In a recent op-ed, Ibram Rogers says a confrontational rendering of the civil rights leader is entirely appropriate.
May 10th, 2008 · The sculpture of Martin Luther King Jr. intended for a memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., is too "confrontational," according to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. The commission's approval is necessary for any monument or memorial in the capital. The commission says the sculpture needs to be reworked.
Apr 25th, 2008 · In South Carolina, state lawmakers are debating the legacy of former Gov. Ben Tillman. Historians agree Tillman was an outspoken white supremacist, and lawmakers in Columbia are grappling with how to recognize his past. One black lawmaker is on a quest to get a statue of Tillman on the statehouse grounds removed. Julie Rose reports from member station WFAE.
