U.S. Tracks Suspicious Sudafed Purchases

Jul 23rd, 2007 · MethCheck is a computerized tracking system the government is trying out in pharmacies. It collects customer data, and then notifies police about suspicious Sudafed purchases. The cold medicine contains an ingredient used to make the illegal drug methamphetamine. Federal law limits Sudafed purchases to six boxes at a time.

Oregon Meth Law Requires Prescription for Cold Meds ****

Jul 1st, 2006 · A new law takes effect in Oregon that requires cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine, like Sudafed and Claritin D, to be sold only with a prescription. Pseudoephedrine is used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine.

Oregon Considers Prescriptions for Sudafed ***

Jul 22nd, 2005 · State legislators in Oregon next week are expected to pass a bill that will make the cold remedy pseudoephedrine a prescription drug. About 30 states have cracked down on such products as Sudafed, in an effort to curb methamphetamine production. The Oregon vote comes just as Congress is considering federal regulations.

States See Lobbyists' Hands in Meth Law ****

New Version of Sudafed May Help Curb Meth Production ***

Dec 23rd, 2004 · Pfizer is introducing a new version of its popular over-the-counter decongestant, Sudafed. The new product, Sudafed PE, cannot be used to make illegal methamphetamines; the old version will continue to be made, but Oklahoma has enacted restrictions on its sale and other states are considering the same action.
