Toyota has production plants in a half dozen states, and directly employees some 36-thousand workers. Thousands more are employed by parts suppliers. Lawmakers have to weigh how hard to push the company over the safety of the cars many of their constituents drive, versus protecting the high paying manufacturing jobs the company provides many others.

Sep 14th, 2009 · U.S. energy giant Chevron says it's going ahead with a major project to extract liquefied natural gas off the coast of Western Australia. The project is one of the largest in the world and the biggest ever for Australia, which could become a major supplier of fuel to Asian economies hungry for energy. The first phase of the project will cost $37 billion. To gain approval, Chevron had to satisfy Australia's strict environmental conditions.
