Remembering Jazz Great 'Fiddler' Williams

May 1st, 2004 · Jazz violinist Claude "Fiddler" Williams died this week in Kansas City at the age of 96. He started out by playing guitar, violin, mandolin and bass in string bands. He played briefly with Nat King Cole and later with Count Basie. But his career as a soloist didn't really take off until he was 80. NPR's Greg Allen has an appreciation.
