Turkey Dinner's Carbon Footprint

Most likely your turkey traveled by truck to get to your grocer. That trip probably started in a state like Minnesota or North Carolina, which are leading turkey producers. The cranberries are most likely from Wisconsin or Massachusetts, two states that produce more than 80 percent of the nation's cranberries. But the National Resources Defense Council suggests that many ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner can be found at local farmers markets.

An Horse: 'Horizons'

Australians Kate Cooper and Damon Cox make up An Horse. The two recently released their full-length debut, Rearrange Beds, on which they tackle a simple enough formula: drums, electric guitar, and failed relationships for lyrical fodder. It's dangerous territory for some bands. It's easy to turn those ingredients into melodrama or an exercise in the trite. But An Horse uses its confessional lyrics to create 10 immediately recognizable tunes, with toe-tapping beats. It's a combination that led the duo to opening spots on tours with Death Cab for Cutie and Tegan & Sara.

The National Toy Hall of Fame this year is honoring the baby doll, the skateboard and the lowly stick. In choosing the stick, toy experts found virtue in its versatility, natural ingredients, no-cost and its appeal to the imagination. In 2005, the cardboard box was inducted into the hall.

Small amounts cause hallucinations. The chef says he meant to name a different, harmless weed called "fat hen."
