Some say the findings reflect a much larger problem, the failure of society on many levels. A roundtable of people directly affected by violence share their perspective — Sylvia Banks, whose son Deon was killed in Detroit in 2003; Karen Graham whose son Aaron was killed in Milwaukee in 2004, and Ron Moten, of the D.C. group Peaceaholics.

Paintballs Help Stop Man From Driving Drunk

A Washington State man says he wanted to stop a friend from driving drunk. And that's why Shawn Wallace allegedly blasted his friend's windshield with paintballs. The Tri-City Herald reports police arrested Wallace, but gave him credit for being creative. Creative people around Milwaukee have an event for bike riders. On New Years' Day, they ride their bikes into Lake Michigan. Half a dozen people plunged into a lake so cold they had to break the ice first.

Is Milwaukee Milwaukee Without Bowling...

The U.S. Bowling Congress is considering moving its headquarters out of Milwaukee, a city where bowling is as popular as beer. The group says the cost of doing business in Milwaukee is too high. If it moves, it would be another blow to a city that has lost much of its blue-collar industrial heritage, from manufacturing to brewing. Recently, Milwaukee-based Miller Brewing merged with Coors; the headquarters of the new company will likely not be in Milwaukee. Erin Toner reports from member station WUWM in Milwaukee.
